La terraza del "Anders auf dem Turmberg", comandado por el jovencísimo chef Sören Anders, ofrece una fantástica vista sobre Karlsruhe. Esta ciudad, muy cercana a Frankfurt y cuyo nombre significa en alemán "el descanso de Carlos" en honor al rey que la fundó, es considerada la sede de la justicia alemana, ya que alberga el todopoderoso Tribunal Constitucional alemán, además de numerosos centros tecnológicos. En la frontera de la Selva Negra, ofrece un paraje excepcional para disfrutar de la naturaleza.

The terrace of the "Anders auf dem Turmberg", led by the young chef Sören Anders, offers a fantastic view over Karlsruhe. This city, very close to Frankfurt and whose German name means "the rest of Charles" in honor of the king who founded it, is considered the seat of the German justice, as it houses the mighty German Constitutional Court, as well as numerous technology centers. On the border of the Black Forest, Karlsruhe is an exceptional place to enjoy the nature.

Baden-Baden

Este fin de semana crucé la frontera y descendí por el río Rin hasta llegar a Karlsruhe, próximo a Frankfurt. Muy cerquita, en mitad de la Selva Negra, está la ciudad de Baden-Baden. Esta ciudad de ensueño, empezó a ser frecuentada por la burguesía europea durante el siglo XIX como un lugar de descanso. Surgieron grandes establecimientos termales (por lo que la ciudad es famosa), teatro, hipódromo y el casino, uno de los más lujosos del mundo. También aquí está uno de los últimos castillos habitados de Europa. En la famosa alameda de la ciudad llamada Lichtentaler Allee, se encuentra el Museum Frieder Burda, una reluciente joya en la corona de Baden-Baden. El edificio en sí mismo es sobresaliente: un museo con luz natural, diseñado por el famoso arquitecto neoyorquino, Richard Meier. La colección en el interior se compone de obras maestras: más de 500 pinturas, dibujos, esculturas y objetos, que muestran la historia del arte de los pasados 100 años.

This weekend I crossed the border and went down by the river Rhine to reach Karlsruhe, near Frankfurt. Very close, in the middle of the Black Forest, is the town of Baden-Baden. This city of dreams, began to be frequented by the European bourgeoisie in the nineteenth century as a place of rest. Emerged large spas (for what the city is famous), theater, race track and casino, one of the most luxurious in the world. Also here is one of the last inhabited castles in Europe. In the famous city mall called Lichtentaler Allee, is the Museum Frieder Burda, a shining jewel in the crown of Baden-Baden. The building itself is remarkable: a museum with natural light, designed by famed New York architect Richard Meier. The inside collection consists of masterpieces: more than 500 paintings, drawings, sculptures and objects that show the history of the art of the past 100 years.

Les Bluets

 Esta entrada está dedicada a mis padres que hace un año estaban visitandome acá en Bruselas, hospedánose en este maravilloso hotel. Les Bluets, es un hotel de pocas habitaciones, pero con una decoración que parece a las de los grandes negocios de anticuarios en San Telmo. La dueña de este hotel frecuenta sin faltar los mercados de pulgas y la casa está llena de pinturas, de alfombras, de floreros y de platos de todas las épocas, empiladas sin orden, acumulando polvo, pero no sin algún antiguo charme belgo. Y se hace que esta mujer bien belga, redondita y con la voz estridente, vivió mucho de su vida en Colombia, con su marido que es de allí.

This post is dedicated to my parents who visited me here in Brussels one year ago, staying in this cute hotel. Les Bluets has but a few rooms, but each one resembles the large antique shops to be found in San Telmo. The owner of the hotel is an aficionado of fleas markets and the house is full of paintings, carpets, vases and plates from all ages, piled up in any order collecting dust, but with a certain Belgian charm. Yet as it happens, this lady, who is very Belgian with her large hips and strident voice, lived much of her life in Colombia, the homeland of her husband.

Lungomare

Opatija es un pueblo en el oeste de Croacia, muy cerca de Rijeka. Fue descubierto por los aristócratas habsburgos a fines del siglo XIX. Fue el lugar de más de moda de esa época, pero luego durante la era soviética nadie más lo visitaba.
Opatija se caracteriza por su lungomare, un camino de 15km a lo largo del mar Adríatico. La mayoría de los hoteles, fueron en el pasado villas de fin de siglo, como el que se ve en la última foto. Cada uno tiene su "playa" de privada, un cuadrado de cemento donde poder tomar sol y bañarse en el agua helada del mar!.

Opatija is a town in western Croatia, near Rijeka. It was discovered by the Habsburg aristocrats in the late nineteenth century and was the most fashionable place at the time. But then during the Soviet era no one went anymore. 
Opatija Lungomare is a 15km promenade along the Adriatic Sea. Most of Optaija;s hotels were villas in the past century, as you see in the last photo. Everyone has their private "beach", a cement square where you can sunbathe and swim in the icy water of the sea!.
