Porte de Hal

                               

Construida en 1381, la Porte de Hal es el último vestigio de la segunda muralla medieval de la ciudad de Bruselas. En primer lugar, llevaba el nombre de la puerta Obbrussel (alta de Bruselas, hoy Saint-Gilles). Su función militar terminó en 1564. El conjunto incluyó siete torres, que fueron destruidas entre 1818 y 1840 para permitir la construcción de los bulevares del "pequeño cinturón". La Porte de Hal sirvió de granero, de iglesia luterana, de cárcel y de depósito de archivo, antes de convertirse en museo a partir 1847.

Built in 1381, Halle Gate is a 14th-century city gate from the second set of defensive walls that enclosed Brussels. The gate was named for the city of Halle in Flemish Brabant which it faces. The original gate included a portcullis and drawbridge over a moat. The structures that housed these are still visible. While the other six gateways and the defensive walls were demolished, the Halle Gate survived as it was used as a prison. It was at other times used as a customs house, for grain storage, and a Lutheran church.

Marché aux puces - Place du jeu de balle

No hay domingo soleado que se precie en Bruselas sin paseo matutino por el mercado de pulgas de la place Jeu de Balle. Aunque los vendedores ambulantes disponen sus tesoros y baratijas sobre el suelo empedrado cada mañana, es el séptimo día de la semana cuando turistas y lugareños prefieren pasearse por esta peculiar plaza del sur de la ciudad, en pleno barrio des Marolles. La plaza está rodeada de bares donde beber y comer "a la belga" y de tiendas de moda de vintage, donde perderse horas y horas. Una recomendación "incontournable" para todo visitante que se precie!

There is no nice sunny Sunday in Brussels without a walk around the flea market on Place Jeu de Balle. Although vendors show their treasures and trinkets on the stone floor every morning, on Sundays is when tourists and locals prefer walking through this particular square in the neighborhood des Marolles. The square is surrounded by bars to drink and eat "the Belgian style" and by vintage fashion shops where spending hours and hours. One "incontournable" recommendation for every visitor who really wants to enjoy Brussels!

Summer 2014 fashion shows were over at the same time Autumn arrived to Brussels. Days get shorter while the pants and sleeves are longer and covered with cardigans and jackets. People are starting to wear darker colors matching with the carpet of leaves covering the sidewalks of Brussels. La Semana de la Moda de París ya ha llegado a su fin. Durante siete días, las mejores casas de moda (con perdón de los milaneses) han mostrado al mundo sus propuestas prêt-à-porter para la próxima temporada primavera-verano 2014 en la ciudad del Sena. Louis Vuitton cerró los desfiles con una despedida apoteósica para el que ha sido su couturier fetiche durante los últimos 15 años: el neoyorquino Marc Jacobs. Valentino volvió a ofrecer una viaje onírico en la Historia con sus princesas medievales coronadas de pies a cabeza, mientras que Chanel homenajeó al arte contemporáneo, con una pasarela-galería y pintando sus diseños con paletas pantone. Muy colorido se mostró también Dior en su jardín-pasarela, ciñendo una vez más la cintura de su "New Look". Las ninfas de Elie Saab encontraron su réplica en los delicados diseños de Vionnet, en tonos neutros que recuerdan a las propuestas de Stella McCartney. Saint-Laurent refinó el estilo punk de anteriores desfiles, ofreciendo diseños más femeninos sin abandonar su estética glam, muy en la línea de Lanvin, que regaló numerosas propuestas para brillar y deslumbrar en las ocasiones más especiales. Lineas depuradas y gasas gráciles se pudieron ver en el nuevo Balenciaga y diseños inspirados en Ava Gardner y Grace Kelly en Mogambo son los que ofreció Hermès en su desfile-safari.

Fashion Week in Paris has come to an end. For seven days, the best fashion houses (with apologies to the Milanese) have shown the world their ready-to-wear proposals for the next SS2014 season in the city of the river Seine. Louis Vuitton closed the week with a apotheosis farewell parade dedicated to its favourite couturier for the past 15 years: the New Yorker Marc Jacobs. Valentino offered again a dreamlike journey in history with its medieval princesses crowned head to toe, while Chanel tributed to contemporary art in a walkway-gallery and painting their designs with pantone palettes. Also very colourful was the "New Look" showed by Dior in its garden-walkway. Elie Saab nymphs found its counterpart in the delicate designs of Vionnet, in neutral tones with reminiscents of Stella McCartney's proposals. Saint-Laurent refined the punk style of the last shows, offering more feminine designs without abandoning its glam, in a very Lanvin line, which gave many suggestions to shine and dazzle at special occasions. Refined lines and graceful gauze could be seen in the new Balenciaga and designs inspired by Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly in Mogambo are offered by Hermès in its parade-safari.
