Good morning, Hvar!

Una de las características más notables de Dalmacia son las más de mil islas que dan la réplica a la costa del mar Adriático. Sin ninguna duda, en ellas encontré las mejores playas de Croacia, como en Hvar, en Brač y en Korčula. El viajero debe tener en mente que no va a hallar playas de fina arena, sino playas rocosas de un agua tan cristalina que permite observar el fondo del mar incluso en las zonas de mucha profundidad. Las áreas de baño están salpicadas de pequeñas barcas, que los niños utilizan de trampolín para sus audaces saltos, y de campos de waterpolo, un auténtico deporte nacional en la región.

One of the most notable features of Dalmatia is the more than a thousand islands in front of the Adriatic coast. I found there the best beaches in Croatia -Hvar, Brač and Korčula-. Travellers have to keep in mind they won't find sandy beaches, but rocky beaches with crystal-clear waters allowing them to observe the seabed even in areas of great depth. Swimming areas are dotted with small boats that children used as a trampoline for them bold jumping and waterpolo fields, a true national sport in the region.

A walk around the picturesque Šibenik

 Con el olor a sal y a mar todavía muy fuerte en mi recuerdo, comienzo a contaros mi viaje por Dalmacia, la región del sur de Croacia famosa por sus hermosas playas. Sin embargo, Dalmacia no es sólo turismo de sol y playa, sino que tiene, además, un notable patrimonio cultural y natural protegido por la Unesco. Como es el caso de Šibenik, una pintoresca ciudad fortificada en la desembocadura del río Krka con el mar Adriático. Reminiscencias de un pasado florido de comerciantes y navegantes venecianos y turcos, que ahora son sustituidos por turistas de todo el mundo a bordo de sus imponentes barcos.

With the smell of salt and sea still very strong in my mind, I start the diary of my road trip through Dalmatia, the southern region of Croatia known for its beautiful beaches. However, Dalmatia is not just sun and beach tourism, but it has a remarkable cultural and natural heritage protected by UNESCO. As it is the case in Šibenik, a picturesque fortified town at the mouth of the river Krka in the Adriatic Sea. Reminiscent of a past with traders and sailors from Venice or Turkey, who are now replaced by tourists from around the world on its impressive boats.

Spanish summertime

Por fin de vacaciones!! Además del fin de semana en El Rompido, me escapé un par de días de nuevo a Sevilla, que las altas temperaturas parecían querer derretir. En España, el verano se disfruta a partir de las ocho de la tarde, cuando la gente se reinventa y se prepara para disfrutar del mejor momento del día: la puesta del sol en una terracita tomando el aperitivo... Dolce farniente ;-)

Already on holidays! In addition to the weekend in El Rompido, I spent a couple of days in Seville, where it seems the high temperatures are going to melt everything. The summer in Spain is enjoyed from 8pm when people are reinvented and ready to enjoy the best time of day: the sunset having the aperitif on a terrace... Dolce farniente;-)

Rotterdam

El finde pasado estuvimos en Rotterdam, Holanda. Es la segunda ciudad más importante de Holanda y uno de los puertos más grandes del mundo (y el más grande de Europa). La ciudad fue totalmente reconstruída entre la década del 50 y del 70 luego del bombardeo del año 1940 que la destruyó por completo. Decidieron crear un concepto nuevo de ciudad, completamente moderna, sin intentar copiar los edificios antiguos que existían antes. Por este motivo Rotterdam es una mezcla de estilos donde se mezclan modernos rascacielos, palacetes que sobrevivieron a las bombas y casas-barco de siglos pasados.

Last weekend we went to Rotterdam, Holland. It is the second most important city of Holland and one of the biggest ports of the world (the biggest one in Europe). The city was reconstructed between the 50's and the 70's after the bombing of 1940 that destroyed it completely. They wanted to create a new concept of a city, totally modern without trying to copy the older buildings. For this reason, Rotterdam is a mix of styles with modern skyscrapers, mansions that survived the bombs and houseboats of centuries.
