Look New Years' Eve: Kimono

Feliz 2015!! Espero que hayan tenido un muy buen comienzo de un nuevo año. Por mi parte, yo lo empezé muy bien en Inglaterra con Nicholas y su familia. Siempre que paso las fiestas fuera de Argentina se me hace un poco díficil, no sólo por estar lejos de gran parte de mi familia sino también porque no me gusta el frío...extraño vestirme de blanco para fin de año.Por eso como verán mi look fue "total black" y estrenar mi kimono con flecos (Zara). Es una prenda comodín para cualquier look tanto de día con unos jeans como de noche para una fiesta. Lo combiné con mi falda de cuero (ThinkTwice), top de terciopelo (Las Pepas)y mis botitas de piel (vitange) que las adoro porque son super abrigadas! Los accesorios son nuevos también; vincha trenzada azul(Gabrielle Vintage) y el collar de citrino, una piedra semi preciosa (Decadorn). Si no conocen esta marca, les recomiendo que miren su sitio web (y si están en Londres pasen por The Mercantile London en Spitalfields Market). Fue uno de mis más lindos descubrimientos y regalos de navidad.

Happy New Year!! Hope you had a great start to 2015. As for myself, I had a very nice start with Nicholas and his family in the English countryside. It is quite hard to spend these period of the year out of Argentina, not only because I am far from the family but also because it's SO cold...I miss dressing up in white clothes for the NYE. So, as you can see my look is 'total black' and I'm wearing my new kimono with fringes (Zara). I think it's one of those piece of clothes that you can either wear during the day with some jeans or for a night party. I combined it with my black leather skirt(ThinkTwice), velvet top (Las Pepas) and my faux fur boots, which I love cause they are really warm! The accessories are also new; blue headband (Gabrielle Vintage)and the citrine crystal pendant (Decadorn). If you don't know this English brand, you should take a look at their website (or if you are around London, pass by The Mercantile London, in Spitalfields Market to see their semi - precious stone jewellery collection). It was one of my most beautiful 'discoveries' and Christmas' gift.

Hace unos días tuve la oportunidad de conocer El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) con motivo de la boda de Dani y Maca, que organizaron una fiesta espectacular para que todos celebrásemos su amor por todo lo alto! Tras la ceremonia en la Iglesia Mayor Prioral, el banquete tuvo lugar en un enclave mágico: el castillo de San Marcos, una antigua iglesia fortaleza edificada sobre los cimientos de una mezquita del siglo X.

A few days ago I had the opportunity to visit El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) on the occasion of Dani and Maca's wedding, who hosted a spectacular party to celebrate their love! After the ceremony at the Priory Church, the feast took place in a magical place: the San Marcos Castle, an ancient fortress church built on the foundations of a mosque.

La luz y la ausencia de ella dibujan perfiles y subrayan expresiones que pasan desapercibidas en una mañana soleada. Nuestras sombras se funden con el telón oscuro y con la silla tapizada de una tela negra. Manos y caras, o lo que no se esconde de ellas, resaltan como nunca y captan la atención de quien mira. Como si de un teatro, con sus actrices y sus espectadores, se tratara.

The light and its absence draw profiles and underline expressions that used to be unnoticed on a sunny morning. The shadows blend into the dark curtain and into the seat upholstered with a black cloth. Hands and faces, or what is not hidden yet, stand out as ever and capture the attention of the beholder. Winter is here!

La próxima semana daremos la bienvenida al invierno. Adiós a la cálida gama crómatica que va del mostaza al chocolate pasando por el granate del otoño para saludar al blanco más puro que acompaña al invierno. Éste ha sido un otoño atípico en Bruselas. Más caluroso de lo normal, con mañanas soleadas y escasas lluvias. Pero la ciudad ya huele a Navidad y con ella llegará el frío intenso y los primeros copos de nieve, que ya estamos esperando.

Winter will be here already next week. We will say goodbye to the warm color range of the Autumn that goes from mustard to chocolate and garnet to greet the purest white that always accompanies Winter. This has been an unusual Fall in Brussels. Warmer than normal, with sunny mornings and little rain. But the town is already celebrating Christmas time and waiting for the intense cold and the first flakes of snow.

Les Bluets

 Esta entrada está dedicada a mis padres que hace un año estaban visitandome acá en Bruselas, hospedánose en este maravilloso hotel. Les Bluets, es un hotel de pocas habitaciones, pero con una decoración que parece a las de los grandes negocios de anticuarios en San Telmo. La dueña de este hotel frecuenta sin faltar los mercados de pulgas y la casa está llena de pinturas, de alfombras, de floreros y de platos de todas las épocas, empiladas sin orden, acumulando polvo, pero no sin algún antiguo charme belgo. Y se hace que esta mujer bien belga, redondita y con la voz estridente, vivió mucho de su vida en Colombia, con su marido que es de allí.

This post is dedicated to my parents who visited me here in Brussels one year ago, staying in this cute hotel. Les Bluets has but a few rooms, but each one resembles the large antique shops to be found in San Telmo. The owner of the hotel is an aficionado of fleas markets and the house is full of paintings, carpets, vases and plates from all ages, piled up in any order collecting dust, but with a certain Belgian charm. Yet as it happens, this lady, who is very Belgian with her large hips and strident voice, lived much of her life in Colombia, the homeland of her husband.

En el madrileño Barrio de Salamanca

Ascensores anclados en otro tiempo, escaleras iluminadas por vidrieras, faldas de tubo que marcan siluetas propias de otra época. En esta casa del madrileño barrio de Salamanca es muy fácil imaginarse el Madrid de comienzos del siglo XX, donde todo olía a modernidad sin perder de vista la tradición más arraigada.

Oldfashion elevators, stairs illuminated by stained glass windows, pencil skirts that show silhouettes from another epoch. In this house located in Barrio de Salamanca is very easy to imagine the Madrid of the early XXth century, where everything had a perfume of modernity without losing the tradition.
Thanks to our gorgeous María for her lovely house and for her travel in time.

Blowing in the cierzo

Para quien no lo sepa, Zaragoza es una bonita ciudad situada en el noreste de España. No voy a relatar las maravillas de mi ciudad natal, sino que os voy a contar que una de sus más notables características es el viento. Un amigo me contó una vez que quien dijo que Chicago es la “ciudad del viento”, no debía de conocer Zaragoza y doy fe de ello. Os dejo un ejemplo de lo difícil que es llevar sombrero en esta ciudad…

For those who do not know, Zaragoza is a beautiful city in the northeast of Spain. I am not going to explain the wonders of my hometown, but one of its most notable features: the wind. A friend told me who named Chicago as the "Windy City", didn’t hear about Zaragoza. Here you have an example of how difficult it is to wear a hat in this city…

Palais de Justice

Durante décadas el edificio más grande en la historia del mundo, el Palacio de Justicia es una construcción mastodóntica que puede ser vista casi desde cualquier punto de Bruselas. Aunque ha perdido el récord, sigue siendo uno de los más grandes edificios de piedra en el planeta, pues su superficie total es de más de 50.000 m2. Construido en 1866 y 1883 y diseñado por el arquitecto Joseph Poelaert (que da nombre a la plaza), es la sede del Poder Judicial y de los tribunales de justicia. En vísperas de la liberación de Bruselas, los alemanes se retiraron de la ciudad no sin antes incendiarlo. Como consecuencia de ello se derrumbó la cúpula y parte de la construcción quedó muy dañada. En 1947 la mayor parte del edificio fue reparada y la cúpula fue construida dos metros más alta que la original. Quien haya visitado Bruselas en la última década, sabrá que el Palacio lleva años rodeado de andamios, esperando una nueva renovación.

For decades the Palais de Justice was the largest building in the world. Although this mammoth building lost its record, it still remains as one of the largest stone buildings with a total area of over 50,000 square meters (bigger than St. Peter's Basilica in Rome for example). Built in 1866 and 1883 and designed by the architect Joseph Poelaert (which gives its name to the square), is the headquarter of the Law Courts. On the eve of the liberation of Brussels, the retreating Germans started a fire in the Palace of Justice in order to destroy it. As a result, the cupola collapsed and part of the building was heavily damaged. By 1947 most of the building was repaired and the cupola was rebuilt two and a half meters higher than the original. Starting in 2003, renovations have begun on the building.

Hipsters around the world: Luis & Adriana in Antwerp

                             

                    

Luis y Adriana. Adriana y Luis. Binomio perfecto que bate récords tras más de ocho años juntos. El pasado fin de semana vinieron a visitarnos y paseamos por Amberes. Ellos también se quedaron enamorados del magnetismo de esta ciudad. Más vanguardista que Bruselas, Amberes ha sabido transformar el poder que tuvo en el siglo XVII como uno de los puertos más importantes de Europa, en un polo de cultura, arte, moda y arquitectura sin referentes. Todo es atractivo perfectamente conjugado con la esencia de su pasado.

Luis and Adriana. Adriana and Luis. It's the perfect couple breaking records after more than 8 years together. They came for 4-days visit to Brussels and we walked through Antwerp last Saturday. They also fell in love with the magnetism of this city. More avant-garde than Brussels, Antwerp has managed to transform the power it had in the XVII century as one of the most important ports in Europe to turn into a center of culture, art, fashion and architecture without referents. Everything is appealing and perfectly combined with its past.
